Blasts from the Past
The record label DATA DISCS announced represses for 5 of their SEGA-licensed vinyl record albums. Shenmue, Streets of Rage 2, Shinobi III, and the translucent blue vinyl editions of Sonic CD and Sonic Mania are now available to pre-order.
Catching Rays and Tunes
Nintendo is bringing the heat with a new curated playlist of summertime tunes in the Nintendo Music app. The "Summer" playlist is comprised of 52 tracks from many different games and lasts 2 hours and 18 minutes. It also has a neat feature where the track order changes every day to keep it fresh.
Turn up the 3D and volume sliders
A new Zelda soundtrack has been added to the Nintendo Music app: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D! The 3DS remake joins the Nintendo 64 version and brings with it 1 hour and 14 minutes of music across 51 tracks and 5 playlists.
Streaming now!
One of the main pillars from the original plans for Soundtest.FM was a feature for listening, discovering, and learning about video game music through curated "stations" that play music centered around different themes. This radio service would connect with other planned site features and allow users to browse Soundtest.FM with continuous, uninterrupted playback — no page refreshing or external windows required. And now it's ready.
Late Night and Prophecy
The next Deltarune piano score book from Materia Collective is available for preorder, this time with 78 songs from Chapters 3 and 4. Toby Fox's soundtrack has been adapted by Sydney Kjerstad and will "stay faithful to the game while remaining within your reach to learn and play."
It's Sonic RAAAAAAACING
The official Sonic the Hedgehog YouTube channel has uploaded a new video for the opening theme for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds: "Sonic Racing - Cross the Worlds - (Opening ver.)". The music is by Takahiro Kai, lyrics are by James Bourne, an English singer-songwriter and co-founder of pop-punk bands Busted and Son of Dork, and the rap lyrics are by Chez & Yuki Kanesaka.
Bah! Bah!
The latest game to hit the Nintendo Music app is New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, with 2 hours and 7 minutes of music across 90 tracks. The soundtrack is listed under both the Wii U and Nintendo Switch versions as New Super Mario Bros. U and New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, respectively, but the Wii U title is just a shortcut to the *Deluxe* edition, sharing the same tracks and playlists.
Story Time
Nintendo's newest addition to it's official music app is Yoshi's Story for the Nintendo 64, with 49 tracks running 58 minutes total.
Board game night's playlist
Nintendo's official music app has added another game to its ever-growing library - Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics for Nintendo Switch brings 115 tracks with a runtime of 1h 34m, plus 5 curated playlists to enjoy. This comes just a couple of weeks after the game's version 2.0.0 update, which added new features when playing on Nintendo Switch 2.
Follow us and jam out!
It's 2025 — video game music is no longer locked to a game's sound test mode or hard-to-find physical media (mostly). It's also on streaming services. One of the goals for Soundtest.FM is to be a resource of knowledge and reference for video game music, and to help achieve that goal, we now have a Spotify account for tracking and cataloging any video game music on the platform. Other streaming platforms are also planned.
Keep up to date with blog posts, news, articles, interviews, reviews, and more about video game music.
